East Dulwich to London Bridge is 13 minutes and £3.90. Journey times, fare zones and 2026 Travelcard prices for every station in and around Dulwich, Peckham and Camberwell.

Most train pages for a place like this are about getting to London. Dulwich is already in it, so the useful questions are narrower: which station puts me nearest my desk, which zone am I in, and what does a year of it cost.

One fact shapes all the answers. There is no Underground station in Dulwich. Not in the Village, not in East Dulwich, not in West Dulwich, not in Herne Hill, not in Nunhead. Every station here is a National Rail station, and the nearest tube platforms are at Brixton in Lambeth or Elephant and Castle at the top of the borough. That is unusual for somewhere this close to the middle, and it explains both the journey patterns below and a fair amount of the house price map.

The quick version

  • Fastest into the City: Peckham Rye to London Bridge in 10 minutes, direct on Southern.
  • Fastest into the West End: Herne Hill or Denmark Hill to Victoria in 10 minutes, direct on Southeastern.
  • Fastest from Dulwich proper: East Dulwich to London Bridge in 13 minutes, West Dulwich to Victoria in 13.
  • Cheapest useful journey: Peckham Rye to Canary Wharf in 17 minutes for £2.30, because the route never enters zone 1.
  • What a year costs: a zone 1-2 annual Travelcard is £1,788; from the zone 3 stations it is £2,100.
  • No station in Dulwich has a car park. There is no park and ride anywhere in the borough.

Canary Wharf from Peckham Rye is via the Windrush line to Canada Water, then one Jubilee line stop.
Dulwich is ten to fifteen minutes from two mainline terminals and half an hour from Oxford Circus. Having no Underground is why.

Which zone is your station in

This sets your fare, and it is the thing people here get wrong most often, because the boundary runs straight through Dulwich.

Stations in and around Dulwich by fare zone (TfL StopPoint data, August 2026)
ZoneStationsOperators and lines
1+2Elephant and CastleNorthern line, Bakerloo line, Thameslink
2East Dulwich, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Nunhead, Queens Road Peckham, Canada Water, Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Surrey Quays, South BermondseySouthern, Southeastern, Thameslink, Windrush line, Jubilee line
2+3North Dulwich, Herne HillSouthern, Southeastern, Thameslink
3West Dulwich, Sydenham HillSoutheastern

The practical effect: East Dulwich is a zone 2 station and West Dulwich is a zone 3 station, and they are a mile and a half apart. That is £312 a year on an annual Travelcard. North Dulwich is zone 2+3, which means you are charged whichever is cheaper for the journey you actually make, and is quietly the best deal in Dulwich.

The four routes out

Southern to London Bridge serves East Dulwich, North Dulwich and Peckham Rye on the line up from Tulse Hill. It is the City line here: Peckham Rye to London Bridge is 10 minutes, East Dulwich 13, North Dulwich 15, all without changing, all at £3.90 at peak.

What it means for you: if you work anywhere between London Bridge and Liverpool Street, the East Dulwich and North Dulwich side of Dulwich is the cheaper and faster half.

Southeastern to Victoria serves West Dulwich and Sydenham Hill on the line up through Herne Hill. West Dulwich to Victoria is 13 minutes, Sydenham Hill 16, direct, at £4.60 at peak from zone 3. Peckham Rye also has Southeastern Victoria trains, at 13 minutes and £3.90.

What it means for you: the west side of Dulwich points at the West End and the east side points at the City, and swapping between them means a bus or a long walk rather than a change of train.

Thameslink through Blackfriars picks up Herne Hill, Nunhead and Peckham Rye and runs through the middle of the City without stopping at a terminus. Peckham Rye to Blackfriars is 14 minutes, Nunhead 17, Herne Hill 12, and Herne Hill to Farringdon is 16 minutes direct. All £3.90.

What it means for you: for Farringdon, City Thameslink or St Pancras, Thameslink beats going into a terminus and doubling back, and it is the only way out of Dulwich that does not involve a change for the Elizabeth line interchange at Farringdon.

The Windrush line is the Overground route through Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye and Queens Road Peckham to Canada Water, Shoreditch, Dalston and Highbury. The number that matters: Peckham Rye to Canary Wharf is 17 minutes for £2.30, because the route never touches zone 1. From East Dulwich, changing at Peckham Rye, it is 24 minutes for £3.00.

What it means for you: if you work in Canary Wharf, Dulwich is a cheaper commute than most of inner south London, and the fare is barely half what a zone 1 journey costs.

Getting to the West End is the hard part

Nothing here goes to Oxford Circus. The planner’s best from East Dulwich is 36 minutes with two changes (Southern to London Bridge, Jubilee to Bond Street, Central to Oxford Circus) at £5.90, or 40 minutes on the 185 bus to Vauxhall and the Victoria line at £4.85. Bank is 29 minutes and King’s Cross 38.

The honest advice is that for the West End you go to Victoria first. From Herne Hill, Denmark Hill or West Dulwich, Victoria is 10 to 13 minutes and the Victoria line takes it from there. If your journey is regularly to the West End, the Herne Hill end of Dulwich will save you a quarter of an hour a day over the East Dulwich end.

1-2£8.90£44.70£171.70£1,788
1-3£10.50£52.50£201.60£2,100
2-3 (no zone 1)£10.50£33.50£128.70£1,340

Peak fares run Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00, and are not charged on public holidays. Everything else is off-peak, including all Night Tube and Overground night services.

Two things worth knowing about the caps. The daily cap is the same £8.90 whether you travel at peak or off-peak in zones 1-2, so a heavy day costs the same either way. And if your commute never enters zone 1, a zone 2-3 annual Travelcard is £1,340, which is £448 less than the zone 1-2 price. For anyone in Dulwich working at Canary Wharf, Croydon or Bromley, that is the single biggest saving available.

Practical notes

No car parks. TfL’s station data records no car park at West Dulwich, Herne Hill, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill or Nunhead, and there is no park and ride site in Southwark. If you drive to a station here you are parking on a residential street, and most of those streets are inside a controlled parking zone.

Toilets are recorded at Herne Hill and Peckham Rye, and not at West Dulwich, Denmark Hill or Nunhead.

Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye are the interchanges. Both carry Southeastern, Thameslink and Windrush line services, so both let you switch between the Victoria, Blackfriars and Canada Water routes without going into town first. Neither is in Dulwich, which is the recurring theme of this page.
