Dulwich Today is an independent news and information site for the London Borough of Southwark. We report what the public record shows and keep the information residents look up accurate and in one place.
From the river to the hill
Our patch is the whole borough: Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Borough and London Bridge along the Thames; Walworth and Elephant and Castle; Camberwell, Peckham and Nunhead in the middle; and Herne Hill, East Dulwich and Dulwich Village in the south. These are separate places with separate housing markets and separate problems, and they get written about here by name rather than as “Southwark”.
What we report
Planning is the largest part of it, because the register records a scheme in detail long before the hoardings go up on the street. With it we use the council’s committee papers and decisions, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Thames, and company filings in The Gazette. Every fact links to the original document.
How we work
We use software to help us monitor those sources and draft routine updates quickly, which is what allows a small independent site to keep pace with a borough of 312,000 people. The facts always come from the named source, never from invention, and anything sensitive is read by a person before it is published. Where a record is ambiguous, we say so on the page.
Corrections and tips
We would rather be accurate than first. Email hello@dulwichtoday.co.uk if we have made a mistake and we will correct it and note the correction. The same address takes tips about a planning row, a closure, an opening or an event worth listing, and anything you send is treated in confidence.
