Dog Kennel Hill is shut both ways at St Francis Road after a burst water main, so the 40, 176, 185, 484 and P13 skip the hill. TfL expects it shut to 17 October.

Dog Kennel Hill is closed in both directions after a burst water main. The closure is at the junction with St Francis Road, and it has been in place since 1.47am on Monday 12 October, according to Transport for London’s live roads feed.

TfL’s listing runs to 11.59pm on Saturday 17 October. Treat that as an estimate rather than a promise: burst mains often reopen sooner, and sometimes later. At 7.07am TfL’s advice was to use an alternative route, with no delays reported on the diversion.

Five bus routes are on diversion

TfL posted the bus changes between 2.30am and 3.51am. All five routes are diverted in both directions and miss the stops on and around the hill.

Route Stops missed towards town Stops missed the other way
40, 176, 185 Goose Green (J) to Denmark Hill Station (J), towards central London Denmark Hill Station (C) to Ondine Road (F), towards Dulwich, Penge or Lewisham
484 Elsie Road (A) to Denmark Hill Station (J), towards Camberwell Denmark Hill Station (C) to Ondine Road (F), towards Lewisham
P13 Goose Green (J), Elsie Road (A) and East Dulwich Station (D), towards New Cross Quorn Road (L), East Dulwich Station (E) and Ondine Road (F), towards Streatham

The P13 still serves the stop at East Dulwich Sainsbury’s in both directions. TfL’s bus status page does not say which roads the diverted buses use.

The 12, 37 and 42 showed no change on TfL’s status feed this morning.

Two routes were already diverted

This is the second or third diversion running on two of these routes at once.

  • P13: it was already off its route on Underhill Road, East Dulwich, for emergency Thames Water works from 7 October. It misses the stops from Whateley Road (DS) to Belvoir Road towards Streatham, and from Underhill Road / Melford Road (MB) to Whateley Road (DT) towards New Cross. TfL gives no end date.
  • 484: it is diverted towards Lewisham around the Peckham Rye resurfacing until 4.30pm on 29 October, and towards Camberwell Green at Sprules Road, Brockley, until 5pm on 14 October.

The details of the Peckham Rye works are in our story on the 343 and 484 diversions.

A separate burst main also closed the northbound bus lane on Lordship Lane at Sydenham Hill. TfL lists that as running from 8 October to 5pm today.

What it means for you

  • If you catch the 40, 176, 185 or 484 up the hill to Denmark Hill station or King’s College Hospital, you cannot board at the stops between Goose Green and the station. Allow extra time, and check the stop before you leave.
  • If you drive, Dog Kennel Hill is closed at St Francis Road and there is no signed TfL diversion listed.
  • If your water is off or low, report it to Thames Water. We could not find a public statement from Thames Water about this burst on its website this morning.

We will update this page when the road reopens. All the week’s closures are on our Dulwich roadworks and travel page.
