The Half Moon in Herne Hill is holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Tuesday 17 November, from 10am to 12 noon, with coffee, cake, a raffle and live music from the tribute duo Baz & Dave. It is free and all are welcome, and the pub invites people to bring a cake along to help the cause. The morning is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The pub, at 10 Half Moon Lane, wrote to Dulwich Today to invite readers along. Ann-Marie, its hotel and events manager, described the plan in her own words:

“We’re raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and are planning a lovely community morning at the pub, with live music from tribute duo Baz & Dave, playing old favourites and plenty of singalong songs.”

Baz & Dave, and a raffle

Corrected 29 September: the duo is Baz & Dave, not Katz & Dave as first published.

The pub’s poster bills Baz & Dave as “a Rockney tribute act bringing live piano, pub anthems, rock-and-roll favourites, and singalong entertainment”. It also promises raffle prizes, and tells people to “bring your friends, family and your appetite”.

“The aim is to bring local people together for a couple of hours of music, coffee, cake and good company, while raising as much as we can for Macmillan,” Ann-Marie said.

The poster’s own line on giving: “Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support people living with cancer.”

The MP has been invited

The pub says it has invited the local MP, Helen Hayes, to the morning. “We’re hoping she may be able to join us during the morning,” Ann-Marie wrote. Her attendance was not confirmed when the pub contacted us.

Why the Half Moon

The building on the corner of Half Moon Lane carries “Est. 1896” above its windows.

“As The Half Moon has such a long history in the local community, we thought it would be a lovely opportunity to bring people together and support a very worthwhile cause,” Ann-Marie said.
